Filters for the fluorescense module

For the filter-wheel in the flourescense module could we use any kind of yellow, red, and blue theatrical filters?

  • Hi Msaskoy,

    Welcome to the Forum!

Not really. It depends on the sample you are trying to get images from and the LED you are using the excite it. More specifically, you need to know what is the light wavelength your sample emits and what is the wavelength of your led. Than you should choose a filter that allows most of the wavelength from the sample go through and blocks most of the wavelength of the led.

Once you know that, you can use the tables provided by the filter manufacturers to decide which one is the best for you. In the image here, you can see that most of the blue light would be blocked and everything from green and above would pass to the camera. In more detail, this would be a good filter if your sample emits in wavelengths above 540nm (transmission above 85%) and your led emits around 440nm (transmission below 7%). In this way you would block most of the led light going to the camera, and would have most of the light coming from the sample.
